Whether it be k-12 education, higher-ed, or housing, a high quality architectural experience is critical to project success. In particular, when it comes to marketability, viability, and longevity, ‘Smart Architecture’ plays a significant role in project decisions. A well designed housing facility must be responsible, flexible, and organized to meet changing needs.

“We set out to transform our firm, to meet the demands of today’s clients in a most dramatic fashion. We embraced technology like never before. We took a fresh approach to our staffing needs by fusing our experienced staff with an insurgence of a young/energetic/talented group of individuals to form a truly lean/innovative delivery system. A simple notion, traditional at its core, but one that allows us to serve a diverse client base and mentor future leaders in the architectural field.”

Matthew Teismann, AIA
Principal | Director of Architecture

MKC believes in practiced-based research, which enforces our core values that date back to Greek thinking: diálogos // poiesis // alētheia. Diálogos is manifesting reason through conversation // poiesis is the activity in making that which does not exist // alētheia is revealing truth. We achieve these goals through direct interaction with clients, which affords an altogether new approach derivative of the interaction itself.

Humble in nature, our extensive portfolio of successful on-time and on-budget projects is what we call ‘Smart Architecture.’ Smart Architectural projects are easily maintained, durable, and contextually appropriate. This ‘Smart Architecture’ is particularly successful with student housing, setting-up graduating students for immediate success in their field - as they are less burdened with debt from on-campus housing. This is to say our residence halls are delivered to meet students’ pocket books, which affords a more manageable debt upon graduation.

With changing expectations of a 21st-century generation, we begin our exploration with the most fundamental building blocks of the domestic experience: space and furniture. One of the more common inadequacies of design is disinterested furniture and spatial organization, in which traditionally furniture frequently impedes their optimal use of the space.

When you choose MKC you choose over nine decades of longevity, experience, and a steadfast commitment to develop solutions that are unique, appropriate, and responsive to each project. MKC has been serving Ohio’s communities for over 90 years, in total, MKC has produced work in over 125 school districts, 50 townships and municipalities, 20 public library districts, and produced over 75 healthcare/wellness centers.
