Phase I - Donnellon Hall Renovation
Estimated Completion Date: 2019
Project Size: 28,700 s.f.
Bed Count: 102 Beds
The Donnellon Hall Renovation project includes a complete overhaul of the building, both interior and exterior. The renovation includes converting the one-bedroom dorm style units into what we call ‘Hybrid-Style’ units, which are part dorm / part apartment. Two double-occupancy bedrooms share amenities with an adjacent unit, such as a common living space, kitchenette, and restroom. The building will largely be composed of these hybrid-style units, with five additional dorm style double occupancy units at each end. The renovation will also include completely new laundry facilities, and well as mechanical space, IT & Janitor’s closets, and a new lobby. The exterior of the building will be renovated to match the recent Cascia Hall Renovation, with stucco and brick. The lobby space will also be reconfigured to allow for large expanses of glass - letting light in and views out.
Phase II - Hybrid Style Suites
Estimated Completion Date: 2020
Project Size: 36,000 s.f.
Bed Count: 122 Beds
The proposed living learning community at St. Thomas draws inspiration from its history as a Catholic University. In particular, the architectural organization of the student housing facilities embodies principles derived from early cathedrals, which provides a large expansive vessel where congregations gather to pray and worship. These spaces serve as a space for community to share stories, thoughts, and ideas.
Phase II of the new residential area is a two-story hybrid-style organization located on the northern edge of campus. Because of its proximity to the main entrance, the building takes into consideration views into and out of the units with the use of vertical architectural elements. Directly south of the new residence hall is a a new student outdoor space, similar to a quad, adjacent to the lake and trees for students to gather and interact
