An Athletic Rejuvenation

The Mount Vernon Field House project is a great example of how the lifeblood of small communities is born in their civic buildings and public spaces, where schools, libraries, community centers, parks and playgrounds become robust and enduring gathering spaces for residents. With the primary focus of serving the students of the Mt. Vernon City Schools, the new field was conceived with the goal of serving the broader community where public monies and private donations from local businesses are contributing to the financing of the overall project. While the new field house is positioned adjacent to the existing stadium complex, and in close proximity to the existing high school and middle school, it is also being designed as part of a larger shared athletic campus development in collaboration with the neighboring Mt. Vernon Nazarene College. The new facility has a total area of 71,232 square feet and features a 200 meter, six lane indoor running track, three basketball courts, drop down batting cages, four locker rooms, weight room, wrestling room, coaches and trainers offices, and several classrooms.
