This new LEED Silver two-story facility is home to 600 students and is located on green field property adjacent to the existing high school. The design of this school distinguishes three main areas which includes Academics, Athletics and Performing Arts, each with its own distinctive entrance on the front of the building. This arrangement segregates the areas for after-hour use and allows for ease of access from the main parking area as well.
This facility includes unique features that contribute to a collaborative 21st Century Learning setting, such as “double-wide” hallways offering more space for group learning, collaboration and socializing. Additionally, modern classrooms with glass walls that double as dry erase boards, allow students and teachers to interact and exchange ideas. Retractable partitions allow for large rooms to be easily converted into two smaller areas, providing teachers flexibility to host large lectures or small and intimate sessions as needed.
SHELBY HIGH SCHOOL
Primary entrance to the school in the distance, with secondary entrances along each wing. Brick inlays and signage was also used to highlight the architecture framing of the school.
An octagonal rotunda is positioned at the center of the school near the primary entrance. This rotunda serves as a wayfinding device for students throughout the day.
The gymnasium features a large column-free space, using open-web steel trusses along the roof. Energy efficient lights were used and sound baffling panels around the gym perimeter control sound reverberation.
