Norton High School sits on 35 acres of land located in the heart of Norton and accommodates 820 students in grades 9-12. This new state-of-the-art facility is designed meeting the LEED Silver Certification Level. Site related issues including the preservation of wetland areas and pre-existing storm water management issues presented challenges to the design team. The project included a number of Locally Funded Initiatives (LFI’s) including a new Athletic Stadium complex and a Performing Arts Theatre.
The arrangement of the site separates the floor plan into three main areas which includes academics, athletics and performing arts, each with its own distinctive entrance area on the front façade of the building. The traditional exterior design was requested by the school district after visiting and touring other facilities.

With multiple functions and spaces, the building is organized in an open-winged formation, with pinnacle end pieces bookmarking either side.
The primary entrance to the school is on axis with the entire campus. A cupola is placed just above the entrance to bring in light and serve as a landmark feature.
As part of the masterplan, MKC designed a complete athletic facility with concessions, stadium, standings, and restooms. This facility is on axis with the entrance to the school and frames the entire campus.
