Part of the first phase of OSFC projects which will replace all of the Painesville facilities, the Chestnut Elementary exterior reflects the local Western Reserve architecture with low-profile shingle roofs to blend in with surrounding residential areas. The plan is based on academic neighborhoods, housed in wings, to segregate grade levels.
Each neighborhood includes a multi-purpose Extended Learning Area space. High-activity areas, including the commons/cafeteria, gym, and music rooms are housed in a separate wing. The Center entrance section includes the Media Center, Reading Room and an adjoining Technology Lab.
Separate after-hours entrances encourage community use, while security partitions prohibit access to the academic wings during public activities.
